Brunch and a Show. Saturday, April 29th 1045hrs

When I strode through the front door of the rather humble offices of Blue Moon Investigations Australia, my lobby had been transformed.

Glenda's computer, the one she seldom used for anything other than to rest her book on, was disassembled and stacked neatly in the corner. Her desk had been rearranged into the center of the room, and another table added to extend its length.

They’d then been covered in white tablecloths and platters of rather scrumptious looking food lined the table. Brunch was rounded out with an assortment of pastries, all of which looked delicious. Not that we were in danger of starving, but there were also a platter of sausage rolls, ham and cheese croissants, bacon and eggs, and fruit.

I’d asked Glenda to order brunch for a few friends; she’d prepared for an army. It was a fitting spread for my friends from across the pond.

Glenda looked up from where she stood at the head of the table and smiled. “Darius, you're early for once. Excellent. They're going to be here any minute. Could you help me set out these chairs? I borrowed them from the lawyer’s downstairs, that way we don't all have to sit on mismatched chairs like barbarians.”

“Sure can, Glenda.” I passed on the usual sass, as she’d clearly gone all the way to get the office ready. Any cheek on my part just felt like ingratitude.

I hastened to spread about the chairs left by the door and helped Glenda get the rest of brunch prepared.

“I've been reading up on this Mrs. Fisher,” Glenda said. “You didn’t tell me she was famous.”

“She has made quite the name for herself.” I set out glasses for juice, and cups for tea. “Patricia has a knack for finding and solving mischief wherever she encounters it.”

“How did you come to meet her?” Glenda asked. “She doesn’t seem like the sort to slum it in a pub.”

I laughed. “She’s a friend of Tempest Michaels. I met her while I was in England right before opening this place.”

Glenda knew all about Tempest. She’d heard me talk about him many times. Tempest and I met in the service, and it was he who had put me on to paranormal investigations in the first place.

Tempest happened onto this career by accident, but since then, he'd helped others like me form their own firms as a franchise of his. Tempest was becoming something of a household name, much like Patricia, and you can call it fate, but they met when she opened a detective agency of her own and rented his previous office.

His new office was right next door, and when you add in that they both have dachshunds, it was no surprise they became friends.

The front door cracked open an inch, but then paused.

A thickly accented American voice called out, “Patty, I’m telling you the GPS says this is it.”

The voice belonged to a woman who was as fit as she is attractive. Her name was Barbie, spelled like the doll, and she was quite possibly its human avatar.
